Tom Ford is 33 now, but looks much older, probably because he’s tried to cram a couple of lifetimes into the past few years, and partly because he doesn’t sleep all that much.
Tom was writing staff at CAR Magazine for a few years, eventually ending up as the Road Test Editor. He then trotted off to work for some magazine called Top Gear as the Deputy Editor, before going freelance, though he remains a Contributing Editor of TG Mag and likes to think of writing as his first love…
He’s always loved cars more than is normal though. He started with a 1967 series IIA Land Rover, followed it with a Series III Safari-roofed version and hasn’t looked back since – through Golf hatches to Sierras, to Nissan Sunnies, to weird Citroens, to MX-5s to Corollas, to Audi Cabrios, to modified Vauxhall Monaros to BMWs and back – he’s attempted to have them all. Failed, in some cases, to keep them running, but tried all the same. And he’s never had an Alfa…
Tom currently owns four sets of wheels: a Merc 300TE is a mild retro custom, a Pontiac Lowrider that breaks every 20-25 minutes but still makes him smile (he calls her ‘SnakeBelly’), a brilliant BMW 3-Series Touring fitted with a custom six-seater arrangement (to cope with the kids) and a white BMW X6 on 21s. Tom has been looking for an old S-class for a while now – but the latest addition to the family has precluded that for a few more months!
