Spotify lands on Symbian mobiles
Spotify – now on a Symbian handset near you
Music-streaming service Spotify is now available on Symbian-based mobile phones.
Spotify has already launched a highly acclaimed iPhone app and followed up with a similarly acclaimed offering for Android, but its arrival on Symbian potentially opens Spotify up to a massive new market – mostly Nokias but also the Sony Ericsson Satio and Samsung Omnia HD.
As with the other versions, the Symbian mobile app is a free download, but only if you already have a £10-per-month Spotify Premium membership. At this stage the service remains restricted to the UK, Scandinavia, France and Spain.
The Symbian app lets you play music directly from Spotify or cache it for later, and you can also leave it on in the background while you get on with other tasks.
The majority of Nokia’s handsets run Symbian, including most of its E Series and N Series phones such as the N97 and N97 mini, along with the popular 5800 XpressMusic.
