Next-gen Nintendo to pack 3G?
Next Nintendo to offer over-the-air downloads?
Good news for portable gaming fans! The next version of Nintendo’s DS could come packing unlimited 3G to give instant downloads similar to those of the Amazon Kindle.
President of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, has said that the firm is considering including unlimited 3G data access in the follow-up to the recently announced Nintendo DSi XL, stating that he’s looking at a model similar to that of the Kindle: “I’m interested because it’s a new business model in which the user doesn’t bear the communications cost”.
Unlike a mobile with a monthly contract, the Kindle only connects to 3G when downloading a new title, although Iwata went on to admit that the addition of 3G to the Nintendo in much the same way might lead to a price increase to absorb the cost.
Even if there is a price hike, it looks as though this could heat up the battle between the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP Go.
