Google and Bing embrace Twitter updates in their search results
Search engine giants Google and Bing have both finally recognised Twitter. The duo have just announced that they will start to reveal relevant Twitter updates in their search results. Another step towards global dominance for the micro-blogging site…
Google announced yesterday that an agreement had been reached between themselves and Twitter to include updates in its search results. Marissa Mayer, Google’s vice president of search products and user experience said: “We believe that our search results and user experience will greatly benefit from the inclusion of this up-to-the-minute data.”
Twitter’s mass appeal has been reliant on its near instant ability to provide updates. And with Google tapping into that, Microsoft Bing weren’t about to be left behind, also confirming that it has signed a deal with Twitter to provide updates to its search engine. But that’s not all. It’s also signed up Facebook as well.
Bing’s Twitter search has already gone beta in the States. Users can search tweets via a real-time stream as well as a cloud trending option. The Facebook option, meanwhile, will be coming later down the line.
It looks like, as the search engine war hots up, Twitter is reaping the benefits. Who knew there would be so much popularity in 140 character messages?
