Episode 8 - Superheroes
Jason and Ortis are challenged to become comic book style Superheroes. They must both use technology to give themselves superhero powers. Ortis must become ‘Invisiboy’ – a hero invisible to his attackers. Using a special suit which reflects heat away from it he runs the gauntlet of a course protected by paintballers – if they can see him through their infra red cameras they can shoot.
Whilst Jason becomes Captain Gecko – a superhero who can climb vertical walls. Using suction pads and compressed air he sets out on a 40 metre climb up the famous Fort Dunlop building in Birmingham to see if gadgetry really has given him the power to cling to and climb up the sides of buildings. With thanks to all these guys who all helped make it happen. –

Jason's comments about how Gecko's stick to surfaces is factually incorrect and holds no truth. The Gecko's feet have micro hairs on their feet, millions of small hairs that are on each stalk, millions and millions. The hairs attract static electricity and fine amounts of moisture thus when both combine give the affect of sticking....Gecko's DO-NOT have glue or sticky stuff on their feet. Channel Five needs to do their research more...poorly researched lads..!

Geckos DO-NOT have glue or sticky stuff on their feet...come on Jason and Channel Five, get your facts right. The "subdigital pads" on the toes have rows of transverse layers or "lamelle" these "lamelle" either grow as a single piece across the width of the toes or are divided medially. The lamelle contain tens of thousands of hairlike structures called "setae". These setae attract static electricity which helps the Gecko climb. But these setae and micro hair groves wedge into the surface, this is called "watchglass-shapped "spatulae" on the toes. Remember, glass is not even...it has grooves at microscopic levels...So, geckos DO-NOT have sticky glue... PLease get it right with your facts...

Interesting review of the Walking Boots - I know it's a bit of fun, but the boots didn't really compare... nest time try them on a trek in the Himalaya! Enjoyed the programme - great to be a superhero!!! Cheers Gareth

Brilliant! Good old Jason - he's a star! But what theme was playing when he started to climb - it's one of those songs that I knew but couldn't place. Can anyone help me out with this?

So a certain person thinks all men should climb a vertical wall... ok, why not pop along to your local climbing wall and give it a go? By the way, you'll need to do it without anything to rest your feet in, tiny holds for the hands (rather than huge handles), no "safety rope" backup to hoist you up - just you and the responsibility of tying your own knot and trusting in your belaying buddy to hold a fall. And if you're really lucky you might see a few girls doing it too! ps didn't the BBC show "Bang" do this vacuum climbing stunt a few weeks ago?!

Slightly off topic, but can anybody tell me what that first bit of orchestral music was playing as Jason, sorry, Captain Gecko, started climbing the window? It’s really bugging me as I’ve heard it before, just can’t remember where. Thought it might have been from the Dark Knight, but I'm not so sure now. Cheers.

Figured it out. It was from the 3rd trailer for the new Star Trek film. Specifically "Freedom Fighters" by Two Steps From Hell.

In my opinion, they had all that professional equipment to create the flying on the green screen with wires, but the final result looks really amateur!? Anyway if you would like to make your own green screen go to www.effectsportal.net which provides free video special and visual effects tutorials!
